My professional background is in the following areas: marketing of consumer goods and financial services. I have gained expertise across all marketing disciplines in these sectors culminating as marketing director for a direct insurance division which was part of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Strategic Management: As a senior strategic planner in the financial services arena I was responsible for guiding the strategy of several major companies including Gartmore Investment Management and Provident Financial.

General Management and Small Business Enterprise: I have expertise in general management acquired with large businesses and also my own business, an insurance brokers which I was owner and managing director of for five years.

I continue to work as a consultant in this sector.

I teach a wide variety of management disciplines – business enterprise, marketing, strategy and international business, banking and financial markets and accounting.

Modules taught include: Entrepreneurship, Financial Management, Strategic Management, Banking Management and Financial Markets, Marketing, International Business.

Supervision of MBA dissertations.

Research interests include the dynamics of financial markets & behavioural finance, innovation and the development of entrepreneurial culture

Marketing – I have extensive practitioner and teaching experience in most marketing disciplines, having worked in both consumer goods and financial services.

Entrepreneurship and small business enterprise.  Having run my own business immediately before I started teaching and guided it through a period of steady expansion before selling it giving me a detailed practical insight into all the issues impacting on this area.

Strategic management. Having guided the strategy at a FTSE 250 company through reporting in at main board level and overseen the implementation of recommendations I have

Accounting and financial management. My practical expertise in this area comes from both positions in general management and strategy where understanding and interpreting accounts was absolutely vital and instrumental in taking important operational decisions.

Financial Markets. Having worked professionally in this area with Gartmore Investment Management and also having long experience both as a trader and private investor I have extensive expertise in the dynamics of markets and what factors drive them.

I consult occasionally in the areas of small business and insurance broking especially with regard to marketing and customer relationship management. In particular I have developed a CRM and ongoing marketing program for an insurance broker I have a longstanding relationship with.
